Spaghetti Dinner

Thank you to all who were able to attend our Holy Family Spaghetti Dinner.  It was a great opportunity to come together as a community.  It was nice to see families bring grandparents and older brothers and sisters with them making it a true family school event.  A special thank you to Sabrina H. and all the volunteers for giving their time to prepare and serve the dinner.   I would like acknowledge the Mackay family and No Frills for their generous donation of the food.

In total we raised $1016.37.   The money will be equally divided between funding students activities and a donation made to Father Stephen in support for the recovery of a fishing village in India that lost over 200 fishermen  during a typhoon in December.

Lock Down Practice

Today the school held the first of our two Ministry mandated lock down practices.  This was a scheduled practice.  Teachers where informed weeks in advance and reviewed procedures with their classes.  The lock down protocol is initiated when there is a major incident or threat of school violence within the school or in direct relation to the school.  All individuals will move to the nearest secure location and doors will be locked.  The police are called to respond and are in  control and command of the situation.  Only the police can call a halt to a lock down.  Staff will keep all individuals away from doors and windows, turn lights off, close blinds(if safe to do so), close and lock room doors, remain quiet, take attendance, be aware of sight lines, and ensure there is no communication with individuals outside of the school.

Notice of Fire alarm today

A fire pull station was activated today resulting in the fire alarm going off.  This occurred during lunch recess when most of the students where outside.   Normal fire alarm responses where followed.  All students and staff inside the building evacuated and joined their classes at the designated location.  The fire department responded and gave us permission to silence the alarm and enter the building to resume our instructional day.  Students and staff responded according their training and responsibilities.  There was no fire or emergency situation.

Sincerely,

Vic Longo

Syrian family Support

Holy Family Parish is sponsoring a Syrian Family resettling in New Hamburg.    This family has been in a refugee camp for the past 4 years.  As you can imagine they are in need of  basic day to day items that are a necessity and help to make a house a home.  The family consists of a mother, father, a 8 year old boy and a 1 year old boy.  Holy family school wishes to do our part to help support them.  We have begun collecting items that will be donated to the family.  Your generous donations of gently used clothing, books, and toys will be welcomed.  Please drop these items off at the front lobby of the school.

Thank you for your support.
