Updated COVID-19 Guidance February 23

Updated Information For You, Guardians… what happens if you or your children have symptoms

Good Morning, Guardians!

There is a lot of information out there regarding COVID-19 and there is a great deal of misinformation as well.  Please read below to ensure you understand the process that we will follow moving forward until we receive different directions from the Ministry, Public Health, and the Board.

WHAT DO I DO IF MY CHILD HAS/DEVELOPS SYMPTOMS?

If your child has symptoms that are found on the COVID-19 School Screening Assessment found here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ they should stay home. Any ONE symptom will result in the Do Not Go To School message.

Furthermore, if ANYONE in your household is staying home because of any symptoms (even just one), then EVERYONE in your household needs to isolate, based on Public Health guidance.

This isolation period for the symptomatic individual can end when ANY of the following happens:
  • There is a negative COVID-19 test
  • There is an alternate diagnosis from a medical professional
  • 10 days have passed since the symptom started, and it has not gotten worse, however, the remainder of the household must isolate for 14 days after the last contact with the symptomatic individual
This isolation period for the asymptomatic family members can end when ANY of the following happens:
  • The negative test results are received and confirmed
  • There is an alternate diagnosis from a medical professional
  • 14 days have passed since the last contact with the symptomatic family member (if there is no test result or alternate medical diagnosis)
This is a change, Guardians!  Please know that this applies to our students and their families, and our staff and their families.  This could present significant challenges over the course of the next few months and we thank you for your patience and support in advance.

In the meantime, please continue to practice proper handwashing, sanitizing, masking, and social distancing so that we can work together to keep everyone safe, healthy and in school.

WHAT DO I SAY WHEN I AM CALLING MY CHILD IN SICK?

If/When calling your child in ILL from school, please describe the symptom and let the office know which of the following you will seek:
  • A COVID-19 test
  • Going to the doctor, or
  • Self-isolating your family (siblings included)
Please ensure that you are completing the self-assessment each morning for each student.  A reminder that if one of your children has a COVID symptom ALL siblings from the school must stay at home as well. This is new.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the main office.

Take care, Guardians!  Stay safe!  Stay healthy!

Holy Family Update: February 17

Good Afternoon Guardian Nation!

I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to update you on a couple of items of note this afternoon:

  1. Transition Survey to move to online learning at St. Isidore or back to Holy Family is now open. It will be open until 6PM tomorrow, Thursday February 18th. If you are interested in having your child(ren) change their style of learning, please complete the survey which you can find here. You do not need to fill out the survey if they are staying at Holy Family or St. Isidore.
  2. Masks are now mandatory at recess for students and staff. It was becoming increasingly difficult for students to stay socially distant at recess. This decision was made based on Public Health and WCDSB guidance. The new COVID-19 variants are very transmissible and this provides all staff and students with continued protection for the entire day.
  3. Term 1 Report Cards will be going home on Friday. Please take the opportunity to read through the report as this will provide you with a snapshot as to how your son or daughter is doing. Go over the report with them and discuss the next steps that their teacher has included for them.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us at the school.

Final Elementary Transition Survey

Good Morning Guardian Nation!

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope everyone is enjoying a little bit of Cupid’s magic on this beautiful, sunny February morning.

Please note that your final opportunity to switch your child(ren)’s learning mode is this week from February 16th to the 18th. It begins at 9:00 am and ends at 6 pm on Thursday. A special online survey has been created and will become active on Tuesday. The form will be available on our main webpage in the spotlight sections at www.wcdsb.ca.

You only need to complete the survey if you are looking to have your child(ren) switch to St. Isidore from face to face learning, or back to Holy Family from St. Isidore. Please ensure that you complete the survey during the specified time frame as there will be no requests for changes granted after the survey closes.

Thank You for taking the time to state your choice and for assisting us in having the staffing and resources in place to meet the ongoing needs of our school community.

As always, please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.

Day 1 Under Our Belts!

Good Afternoon Guardian Nation!

I hope this email finds everyone well. We had a spectacular day here at Holy Family as all of our Guardians returned to us! The sun was shining, the air was brisk, the halls were filled with the hustle and bustle of a normal school day, and smiles were to be had all around (they were there under the masks!). I wanted to pass along a couple of reminders:

  1. Each student is required to complete the COVID-19 Screening Tool that is posted on our school website. If they get a green good to go, then they can come to school. If they have any of the symptoms listed there then they need to stay home. Students do not need to provide evidence of the completion of this. We only require those that have symptoms stay home and that a parent calls the school to inform us.
  2. It is cold out there! I have reminded students to make sure that they are wearing appropriate clothing to keep them warm at recess. Snow pants, winter coats, boots, hats and mittens/gloves are required to stay warm and comfortable outside. Students may also wish to bring an extra pair of socks and mittens/gloves in case their first pair gets wet. Students will be outside as much as possible. The only time that they will be inside during the winter is if the temperature drops to -15 Celsius. If the temperature is between -15 and -19 Celsius, including the wind chill, students will only be allowed out for a  maximum of 20 minutes at lunch. Morning and afternoon recess are not affected as they are only 15 minutes in duration. If the temperature drops to -20 Celsius or lower, students will not be outside at all. Please see the AP Memo regarding this policy by clicking HERE . The Weather Network is the site that the temperature will be determined.
  3. We ask that any Chromebook or Internet Device that has been borrowed from the school please be returned as soon as possible. These devices need to be disinfected before they are put back into circulation. All Chromebooks need to come back, even those that were borrowed for Snow Day purposes. Please contact the school if you have any question.

As always, feel free to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.

Return to School Eve

Good Morning Guardian Nation

On the eve of a return to school, I wanted to take a moment to share a prayer with all of you that perhaps you could find some time to engage in as a family:

Dear Lord,

As the Coronavirus continues to affect our world, we continue to pray.
We invite you into our hearts, Lord — hearts that have so much on them right now.
Amidst our fear, disappointment, confusion, uncertainty, grief, anger, frustration,
We invite you in, Lord.
We know you are bigger than this.
May we be given a peace and understanding of cancellations and social distancing rules.
May we act with humility to not just preserve our own safety and health, but to look beyond ourselves and think of how our actions will affect others.
May we be alert to the ways we may help those around us, and give us the grace to step forward without hesitation to be men and women for others, for Your greater glory.
Amen.

Have a peaceful Sunday, Guardians.  See you all tomorrow.

Stay safe.  Stay healthy. Please remember to do the Self Screening that is posted on our Website or can be accessed here: COVID-19 Screening Tool  This must be completed every day. Bring your masks!

We can’t wait to see you!
