Holy Family April 18 Update

Good Morning and Happy Sunday Guardian Nation!

I hope this email finds you well! As you are aware by now, the province has mandated that all schools in Ontario are to transition to teacher-led remote learning beginning on Monday, April 19th.  At this time, the government has not provided a date when schools are expected to reopen. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any needs and we will do our best to support you and your family.

Our school Learning Management System platform is Google Classroom or D2L.  Your child(ren) should be familiar with this platform and should know their usernames and passwords to login in.  If your child does not know their username or password, you can contact the teacher and they will provide it to you.  Families experiencing technical difficulties are asked to please call the Help Desk at 519-578-3677 extension 2316 or click on the following link: Technical Support

Communication with classroom teachers can continue to take place using previously arranged communication methods. Make sure you and your child(ren) stay in communication with their educators when in need of additional learning.  Please note that teachers will be engaged in their virtual classroom during the instructional day and may not be able to respond immediately to inquiries.

Please see the attached WCDSB Virtual Code of Conduct to further support your child’s learning remotely. The following document provides some guidelines for parents and students to help ensure safe and effective live online learning: Virtual-Code-of-Conduct

Thank you in advance for all of the support you will be providing your children and their educators during this time. We know that it can be difficult to balance work, school, and family time, and we appreciate how flexible and creative you were when we were online after Christmas.

Please see below for important reminders and updates for the week.

Monday, April 19th
This will be our first day “back to school” and students will be engaged in asynchronous learning meaning that the work is provided.  This day will be like our adapted learning “Snow Day.”  Teachers will post work on their google classroom by 9:30 a.m. for students to complete during the day. Teachers will use the day to make the transition to the online platform and get things set up for Tuesday.

Tuesday, April 20th
We will generally follow our regular school schedule, including a 9:00 a.m. start time for individual classes. You can expect recess and lunch breaks, French, Music, Drama, Dance periods, etc. to occur at their usual times. Synchronous teaching does not mean that teachers and students are in front of the camera for the entire day. Synchronous teaching involves some time for a lesson and then even some possible asynchronous work for the students with the teacher being available for questions from students, either through email or an open meet link.

Daily Attendance Reporting
We have been directed by the Ministry of Education that morning (9:00 a.m.) and afternoon (12:45 p.m.) attendance must still be taken and parents contacted if absences/lates are not reported. In an effort to prevent unnecessary phone calls and to maintain regular school routines as much as possible, it is important that your child log in on time.  If your child is going to be absent for the morning start or for the entire school day, it is very important to submit their absence/late arrival prior to 9:00 a.m. The regular school day schedule will continue as follows:

School begins at 9:00 a.m.
First recess for ALL students will begin at 10:10 a.m. and end at 10:25 a.m.
Lunch Hour will begin at 11:45 a.m. and ends at 12:45 p.m.
Last recess for ALL students will begin at 2:05 p.m. and end at 2:20 p.m.
School Dismisses 3:30 p.m.

We regret to inform you that as a result of the Provincial shutdown and the classification of essential services, our Graduation Photo Day that was scheduled for April 23rd is CANCELLED. We are working with the company to reschedule and we will update you as soon as we can. We apologize for the inconvenience.
