Principal’s Message

I am excited to be beginning the school year here, at Holy Family Catholic Elementary school. I believe the children reflect the values and character of the school community. The warm welcome I receive from all the students is evidence that Holy Family is a school community that is rooted in the Gospel values. When students feel safe, cared for and hopeful they will thrive Emotionally, Spiritually and Intellectually. I look forward to working as a community to further support our students so each will be successful.

We are fortunate to welcome Father Stephen Gilbert to our school and parish community. His spiritual leadership and guidance will be valued.

This year, our school theme will focus around “Being ready to grow”. During the first week, I read a children’s story to the students about a baby taking their first steps. The message shared with the children was that all of us must continue set new goals, take risks and learn new things to reach our full potential. Holy Family will be a supportive place for all students to grow.

From The Parish

Dear Parents,

Prayerful greetings from Fr. Stephen Gilbert, the new pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church.  Firstly, I want to thank you for choosing Holy Family Catholic School for your children’s education.  By sending your children to Holy Family School you are inviting and encouraging them to know Jesus and his church more personally.

I am happy to inform you that the church and school will be working together to prepare your children in the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion as well as Confirmation.  As details get finalized we will communicate the information to you.

May God bless you as we engage in this faith journey together.

Thank- you

Father Stephen Gilbert

Important Notes/Reminders

Safe Arrival – If your child/ren are absent from school or late please call the school at 519-662-1734 and leave a message on the attendance line. This will alleviate unnecessary phone calls and worry.

First Day packages – Please return your child/ren first day packages if you have not always done so. This is important to keep our records and consent form current.

Before School Yard Supervision – Yard supervision begins at 8:45 a.m. With your child/ren safety in mind we encourage parents not to drop their children off before this time.   When arriving before the morning bell all students are to go the play yard at the back of the school to wait for the bell.

Hot Lunch – We will have hot lunch again this year. We are for “Lunch Box” to contact us with this year’s selection items.

Parking on the street – A friendly reminder that the street out front of the school is a two hour limit. Hate to see any of us get ticket.

Big Events

Holy Family’s Annual Say Hi Day!

Again this year, Holy Family School is participating in the Waterloo Regional “SAY HI” Day!  This annual event and it will be taking place on Thursday September 21st, 2017.  This day supports anti-bullying, diversity, inclusion and community building, and it is a great way to create a safe school community and get to know one another at the beginning of this new school year!

As a Holy Family school community we will be having our first recognition assembly in the morning at 9:30 AM.  We will also have a school picnic in the gym beginning at 11:30 (students may bring a blanket or towel to sit on the gym floor during the picnic).  Please remind your son/daughter to wear YELLOW on Say Hi Day!

Check out the following website for SAY HI DAY activities.

Food Drive

Holy Family School’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive is starting soon! If you would like to donate a nonperishable food item, please send it to school with your child. The food drive begins on Monday, September 18th, and ends on Friday, September 29th. All items will be donated to the Wilmot Family Resource Centre.

Although all nonperishable foods are appreciated, the Wilmot Family Resource Centre is most in need of the following:

  • 100% real fruit juice
  • canned fruit
  • canned vegetables
  • rice
  • school snacks (granola bars, apple sauce, etc.)

Thank you for your support!
